Since its foundation in the early 90s, Icebreaker has been busy producing, innovating, and improving their collections of outdoor clothing. The brand offers a wide range of outdoor clothing that are all designed with comfort and quality in mind. By using natural products, such as soft merino wool, Icebreaker products are made in a way that is not harmful to the environment. They believe that the use of plastics and other potentially harmful materials just simply aren't necessary in order to produce high quality clothing; 'The solution is right under our noses: in nature' is a phrase often heard from the brand's founder, Jeremy Moon.
What is merino wool?

Merino wool comes from, as you might imagine, the merino sheep, which is one of the most common sheep breeds in the world. The wool that comes from the merino sheep is hailed all around the world for its incredibly high quality and desirable characteristics. Per square centimetre, merino sheep grow 10 times more hairs than other sheep breeds, ensuring extremely good insulation when used in clothing. It also ensures an even softer feel for wonderfully comfortable clothing.
Merino wool wasn't used much in the 20th century, because synthetic materials were easier and cheaper to obtain and use to make clothing. This was an idea that Jeremy Moon did not support and now, over 20 years after Icebreaker's formation, many companies are now favouring the advantages of merino wool over other materials. Icebreaker has over 20 years of experience with how this material can be optimally used, ensuring that it is put to good use in every item of clothing.
Merino wool offers a number of desirable characteristics, including that it is very long-lasting, it is naturally odour-resistant, and it does not itch like other types of wool. Merino wool is also ideal in both summer and winter, as it is both insulating, but naturally highly breathable. Perfect for all year round!
